PRINCIPAL OF CHIROPRACTIC CARE

Chiropractic is from Greek words meaning "done by hand".

It is grounded in the principle that the body can heal itself when the skeletal system is correctly aligned

and the nervous system is functioning properly.

Castlegar Chiropractic has expanded to become Kootenay Integrated Health to address the variety of patient needs that the standard healthcare system has been unable to provide, while at the same time working closely with a patient's medical doctor.

Here is what we have to say regarding pediatric care:

While it is not unusual for children to have back pain, it is not as common as adults, and when it is present it does mean that something is not functioning properly and needs correction. The most common issues are spinal joint dysfunction that leads to faulty movements and muscular strain.   Hip dysfunction can also play a role in sore legs.  These issues can occur with or without pain and it is why I recommend children to get checked by a chiropractic doctor at least a few times a year depending on different factors in their lives.

Chiropractic care allows for optimal spinal function which is directly related to overall nervous system and brain function.  It is great that your daughter is active with her gymnastics, she just may need a bit of care to correct some imbalances, which will help her spinal pain, and also possibly help her moods by reducing stress in her nervous system.

As for the treatments, what we call chiropractic adjustments, we can use a variety of techniques to correct joint dysfunction and help muscle strain.  I see a lot of children for care and they enjoy coming for regular care, so it must not be painful.  Generally adjustments are delivered with gentle quick hand movements to a restricted joint or we can also use a low force mechanical instrument called an Activator that delivers a corrective impulse to the joint or muscle.  We may also show your daughter some straightforward stretches and exercises that can help her with her activities.

I am a firm believer in the benefit of chiropractic care for children because I see so much benefit with it.  Not only do we prevent spinal issues down the road, but optimize the function of a child's nervous system which can only benefit them as a whole.
